Cancer cells, endothelial cells, inflammatory cells and various cytokines form a part of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Chemokines constitute the largest family of cytokines, and are mainly secreted by tumor cells and inflammatory cells in the TME. They play an important role in tumor development and progression by promoting tumor growth and metastasis, angiogenesis, and targeting the chemoattraction of inflammatory cells. Currently, some chemokine receptor antagonists are being used in clinical trials as targeted anti-tumor drugs. In this article, we review the roles of chemokines in the development and progression of malignant tumors based on recently published papers, taking into consideration of the new anti-tumor therapeutic strategies targeting chemokines and receptors.Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Ltd.
