Microbial cell-free DNA (microbial cfDNA) offers a minimally invasive approach for profiling the microbiome. Despite technical and biological challenges, the potential of microbial cfDNA for cancer detection is increasingly being evaluated using deep sequencing, novel laboratory approaches, and computational methods.
