A recent Nature paper1 reveals that gut microbes metabolize N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)-nitrosamine (BBN) into the bladder carcinogen N-n-butyl-N-(3-carboxypropyl)-nitrosamine (BCPN) in the intestines, establishing a direct link between gut microbial activity and the development of bladder cancer.Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Inc.
